About Us

Our story began in 1978 when, as a young man, I arrived in Boston from Damascus, Syria, to attend the College of Engineering at Northeastern University. In 1983, I received my first job offer from a small engineering company, where I started as a junior bridge engineer, performing bridge inspections and analyses throughout Massachusetts. This modest beginning marked the start of a career that exceeded my expectations, thanks to excellent mentoring, hard work, and a deep passion for civil engineering. As an overachiever, I consistently pushed myself to outwork and outperform my peers and competitors.

Throughout my professional journey, I've been fortunate to contribute to and lead some of the most challenging projects in civil engineering, both nationally and internationally. Notable projects include the Boston Harbor Cleanup (Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant) and the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, known as the "Big Dig," in Massachusetts. In 2002, after serving as one of the youngest project managers on the Big Dig, I was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq for five years as a civilian consulting engineer in support of the U.S. Army and U.S. State Department.

In March 2008, after completing my assignments and government-related work, I founded AJA Engineering. My commitment was to provide our clients with the same dedication, hard work, and innovative solutions that my extensive national and international experience had instilled in me. In September 2009, I temporarily left AJA to work for a U.S. consulting firm, leading a $1.2 billion infrastructure project in Afghanistan sponsored by the U.S. government. During this time and in the following years, AJA Engineering continued to operate, even without my full-time involvement.

From 2012 to March 2018, I served as the executive vice president for a 6,000-person engineering consulting firm, where I led national transportation projects and served as chief engineer. In 2018, with an improving economy and a growing national focus on infrastructure, I decided it was the right time to return to AJA Engineering as a full-time President.
