About Us

 Our journey began in 1978 when I arrived in Boston from Damascus, Syria, as a young man eager to study civil engineering at Northeastern University. In 1983, I received my first job offer from a small engineering firm, starting as a junior bridge engineer. My responsibilities included inspecting and analyzing bridges across Massachusetts. This humble beginning marked the start of a fulfilling career, fueled by exceptional mentorship, hard work, and an enduring passion for civil engineering. As a driven individual, I consistently challenged myself to surpass both my peers and competitors.

Throughout my professional journey, I’ve been privileged to contribute to and lead several significant civil engineering projects on both national and international stages. Among the highlights of my career are the Boston Harbor Cleanup (Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant) and the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, famously known as the "Big Dig," in Massachusetts. In 2002, I had the honor of being one of the youngest project managers on the Big Dig, which led to my deployment as a civilian consulting engineer in Afghanistan and Iraq for five years, assisting the U.S. Army and the U.S. State Department.

In March 2008, after wrapping up my assignments and government-related endeavors, I founded AJA Engineering. My mission was to deliver the same level of dedication, hard work, and innovative solutions that my diverse experiences had instilled in me. In September 2009, I took a temporary leave from AJA to lead a $1.2 billion infrastructure project in Afghanistan for a U.S. consulting firm. During my absence, AJA Engineering continued to thrive without my full-time presence.

From 2012 to March 2018, I held the position of executive vice president at a 6,000-employee engineering consulting firm, where I oversaw national transportation projects and served as chief engineer. With the economy improving and a growing national emphasis on infrastructure in 2018, I decided it was the perfect time to return to AJA Engineering as its full-time president.
